Satirical Twitter account suspended over satire?
In my opinion, the Babylon Bee is one of the funniest satire accounts on social media. Their posts are very funny. The account makes fun of politics and religion. While the account clearly shows a right-winged bias, the account pokes fun of the right almost as much as the left.
The particular satirical article in question named White House employee Rachel Levine "Man of the Year" award. You can find the article here. The article says Levine "serves proudly as the first man in that position to dress like a western cultural stereotype of a woman. He is also an admiral in the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. What a boss!” It's clearly satirical.
On Monday, Twitter announced to Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillion that the article (which was listed on the Bee's website, and a mere hyperlink was posted to Twitter) goes against Twitter's "hateful conduct" guidelines and the account would be suspended until it was taken down.
Dillion said responded and said he had no intent to remove the satirical article. Twitter eventually caved and reinstated the account without Dillion removing the Tweet. You can still find it here.
Since when have we come to a place in America where we can't even have fun with satire anymore? How do we have free speech if we can't say stuff like this?
